Nepal Basobas Basti Samrakchan Samaj

Nepal Basobas Basti Samrakchan Samaj (The Nepal Settlement Protection Society) grew out of an ad hoc committee which came together to begin looking at city wide problems facing the squatter communities. The federation was officially registered in early 2000 and since then has been involved in workshops, exposure visits, networking and interaction programmes aimed at improving the living conditions of all squatters.

The objectives of Nepal Basobas Basti Samrakchan Samaj include :

Collecting information about the squatter communities and requesting that concerned authorities provide appropriate shelter (with security of tenure) and look at providing access to basic facilities.
Improving the environment around the settlements through reforestation and community cleaning projects.
Conducting awareness programmes on issues of education, health and human rights.
Conducting income generation activities.
Developing an action policy for technical training programmes and creating awareness about the importance of developing occupational skills.
Conducting various programmes in the settlements in order to address and eliminate community problems and social degradation.
Conserving and protecting cultural heritage buildings (temples and resthouses) that are within the settlements.
Assisting and supporting people affected by natural disasters.
